Parent Directed Home Education Program

Parent Directed Home Education Program

Welcome to St. Gabriel Education Centre's Home Education Program!

Home education is a parent-directed approach to educating a student in Grade 1 to grade 12 at home or elsewhere in which they are responsible for making all education decisions.

Parents choose curriculum resources and methodology consistent with their family’s beliefs and consistent with the Home Education Regulation

By registering your home education child/children with St. Gabriel Education Centre, you are eligible for funding from Alberta Education and you are ensured that an Alberta Education certified teacher is supervising your program and guiding you along the way.

Parents have input into their children's program designs. This program allows the most flexibility in terms of the educational focus, including resource selection, instructional methods, and forms of assessment. The parent takes on the sole responsibility in teaching their child/children. The school provides a certificated teacher to meet with the family 3 times per year to review the program, assessments, and progress of the child/children.

Parents looking for a home education program should refer to the Alberta Education Home Education Handbook.

In a Parent Directed Program, parents receive up to 50% of the home education grant, $901.00 which is to be spent on resources to further your child's education.
