Adult Students

Student Funding

Students who are 19 years old or younger as of September 1st of the current school year are funded by Alberta Education.

St. Gabriel does not charge a school registration fee. However, we do require a $150 book deposit. The deposit is fully refunded upon the return of all school books in good order upon completion of the course.

Students who are 20 years or older as of September 1st of the current school year are not funded. Mature students are charged $110.00 per course credit. Core courses such as english, math, science, and social are $550.00 per course. Option courses range from $110.00 to $550.00 depending on the number of course credits. Note, all course assessments such as unit exams are to be completed on site. We do not accept applications from out of province or international students.

Application for multiple core courses in a semester

Online applications for multiple core courses are accepted until the third Friday of September for semester 1 and the third Friday of February for semester 2.

Student applications after the third Friday are welcome. However, students must complete an intake interview with a school counsellor before school admittance is considered.

The last day a student may apply for multiple core courses is the 15th of October for semester 1 and the 15th of March for semester 2.

Application for one core course in a semester

The last day a student may apply for one core course is the last Friday of October for semester 1 and the third Friday of March for semester 2.

Application for option courses

Online applications for option courses are accepted until the last Friday of October for semester 1 and the third Friday of March for semester 2.

Student applications after these dates are welcome. However, students must complete an intake interview with a school counsellor before school admittance is considered.

Orientation Course

All students who have not previously completed an online course with Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools are required to complete the school orientation course. This one credit course will introduce students to how to successfully complete an online blended course with St. Gabriel and covers our student district network acceptable use policies.

Adult students are not required to complete the school orientation course. However, any adult student who feels they would benefit from completing this course are strongly encouraged to register for this course at no cost to the student.

Course Withdrawal

Course withdrawal requests will be accepted until November 15 for semester 1 and April 15 for semester 2. After these dates, student marks will be submitted to Alberta Education.

Adult students must formally withdraw from courses within two weeks of their course start date to receive a partial fees refund. St. Gabriel will withhold $110.00 to cover registration costs.

No refunds will be issued if a student withdraws from their course after two weeks of attendance.

student course challenge

Depending on prior student experiences and age, students may apply to challenge a course or courses. If a school official determines a course challenge is warranted based on the student's demonstration of their basic competencies, the student will be required to complete two formal course assessments as determined by the course teacher. The student's final grade will be based on the two assessments. All course challenges must be completed prior to the last two weeks of the given semester.

There is no student cost for a student who has been granted a course challenge.

Adult students will be charge $150.00 per course to be challenged. All fees must be paid before the student will be permit to complete the formal assessments.

Out of Province 
student transcript review

Students who are transferring from out of province will have their out of province official school transcript reviewed as part of the application process and Alberta course credit will be granted as warranted. There is no fee for this service.

Adult students who are transferring from out of province and require their transcripts be reviewed for potential Alberta course credit must make request for this service as part of the application process. The adult student will be charged $150.00 for this service. This fee must be paid before this service will be completed.

High School Grade 12 Diploma Exams.

All students must have a teacher awarded mark before they complete the Alberta Government course Diploma exam.

Adult students may choose to complete a course Diploma exam without formally taking the course from an accredited Alberta High School program.

Students who require learning resources such as course textbooks and/or access to our online courses for audit purposes will be charged $50.00 per course.

To note, we require an additional book deposit of $150.00 which is fully refundable upon the return of the textbooks in good condition.
